BENCHMARKING VISIT TO KADUNA STATE MARKETS DEVELOPMENT & MAINTENANCE CO.

I had the privilege of joining our team from Niger State on a peer review visit to Kaduna State Market Development and maintenance Company alongside the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Helen Williams Umaru and other Directors from Niger State Ministry of commerce, industries and cooperatives.

We were warmly received by Ahmad Shehu Haruna , Managing Director of the Organization and at the same time ,Special Adviser on Economic Matters to the Kaduna State Government , who briefed us on the organization’s achievements and operational framework.

The visit was both insightful as It has exposed us to modern approaches to market planning, management, and stakeholder engagements. Seeing their systems firsthand gave us the opportunity to exchange ideas, compare operational models, and identify workable strategies that can strengthen how we develop and manage markets back home.

For the Niger State Markets Development Agency, this visit opens doors to improved service delivery, smarter infrastructure planning, and stronger institutional collaboration in line with the “NEW NIGER AGENDA ” of the Farmer Governor . Beyond our agency, the long-term value lies in building a more organized, productive, and investor-friendly market environment that supports traders, creates opportunities, and contributes to sustainable economic growth.

We look forward to building on the relationships formed and exploring other beneficial areas of partnership that will translate these lessons into real improvements for our markets and communities in Niger State.
